What Makes Kolos Different?
- All dancers are instructed by either Serhiy or Liana Zabutnyy. No junior instructors are utilized. This ensures the best foundation for all of our dancers.
- Simplified fee structure. $30/month per hour per week of instruction.
- Flexibility in commitment levels. Dancers in more senior levels can dance 1 to 3 hours per week.
- Family-oriented group, where parents play an active role in the organization
- All levels perform competitively and have numerous opportunities to display their talent. We try to balance competitions with performances and community service.
Fees,
Fundraising and Scheduling
At Kolos, we’ve moved away from a complex structure of fees and fundraising. There is one monthly fee that is paid from September to May (9 months). A minimum of 50% of the fee must be paid each month; the balance can be paid through fundraising credits raised throughout the year. Bingos are an optional fundraiser.
Your fees are based on a rate of $30 per month, per hour per week on instruction. So if you register for 2 hours per week, your fees are $60/month. If you register for 5 hours per week, your fees are $150/month. In the more advances classes, dancers choose to dance 1, 2 or 3 hour per week based on their personal commitment. Serhiy & Liana build the dances and practice schedules around the dancers. The more hours your dancers practices, the more dances they perform.

Costumes
The club retains an extensive school-owned wardrobe featuring a variety of styles from many different regions of Ukraine. Fundraising efforts help support the organization’s costume program. A costume rental fee of $15/per costume is levied for use of the costumes.
Required Class Attire
Boys: shorts, T-shirts, ballet slippers or character shoes.
Girls:tights, leotards, ballet skirt, ballet slippers or character shoes. Hair should be secured back into a bun.
Footwear
All dancers are required to wear proper footwear at
all times. Stocking feet and bare feet will not be allowed for safety
and health reasons. Specific footwear requirements will be provided at the beginning of the year.
Attendance
It
is extremely important that students and parents understand that regular
attendance is essential. Absenteeism not
only affects the student's own progress, but also impacts on the other
dancers in the class. During certain times, some additional practices
may be called in order to prepare for performances. We ask that you
give this consideration when planning other activities, particularly
those in the spring. Students who will miss a class must notify the
Instructor (home phone number) at least 30 minutes prior to the class.
If a dancer is unable to attend a major performance, the Instructor must be notified at least 30 days prior to the event. Dancers who miss
more than 8 classes may be removed from dances or may be asked to discontinue.
Instruction
All classes are instructed by Serhiy & Liana Zabutnyy.
Dance Meister Serhiy Zabutnyy is from Ternopil, Ukraine. Mr. Zabutnyy
studied dance instruction and choreography in Ukraine at Dnipropetrovs'k
Dance College. He danced professionally in the army dance corps and
for 14 years in Nadzbruchanka, where he held the positions of Artistic
Director, choreographer and ballet meister starting in 1999. Liana is
also a professional dancer with training in both ballet and Ukrainian
Folk Dance. Additionally, Liana worked in the Ukrainian school system. more info
