Kolos Dance Festival May 14, 15, 16, 2010

The Second Annual Kolos Dance Festival will be held May 14, 15, 16, 2010. Festival Package and Entry Forms are now available.

We had so much fun hosting our festival last year, that we have decided to try it again in 2010. We learnt a lot last year and that will only make our Festival bigger and better this year. Last year we ended up giving away about $4,000 in prize money and we are hoping to do better this year. As we all know, that will depend on our 2010 sponsors. Right now we are guaranteeing $2500 in prize money for the Hopak, Dance Off, Choreography & Adjudicator Choice dances

So what changes have we made for 2010?

1. We are changing venues. We are moving to Sheldon William Collegiate. The auditorium has slightly more capacity and the facility will allow our kitchen to be in a better location. We are still in a High School, so the hours of our festival will need to work with school programming, which means we likely will not be able to start until Friday afternoon at around 4:00pm.
2. We will continue to move forward with the Dance Off. This is something that our sponsors really enjoyed. So this year, it will be treated more like a special performance and we will sell separate tickets fore this event. We have modified the rules for the Dance Off. It will be open to small. medium and large groups, under 29 years of age. There will be two divisions, over and under 12 years. And schools will be limited to no more than 2 entries per division. Hopaks will not be eligible for the Dance Off, as they have a separate run-of on Saturday night.

The Hopak Celebration” will continue on Saturday Night, with the Diamond Dance Off on Sunday afternoon and closing with the presentation of the Kolos Kup.

Deadline for entries is January 31, 2010. Entries will be acknowledged in the order they are received. The number of solos and duets may be limited according to the number of entries received. Preliminary schedules will be sent to all participating clubs no later than March 1, 2010.

The 2009 Festival was sponsored by

The Kolos organization hosted it's first annual Kolos Ukrainian Dance Festival May 8, 9 & 10 of 2009.

The “Hopak Celebration” was Friday Night, and the Diamond
Dance Off on Saturday night, following the closing with the presentation of the first Kolos Kup. There was significant prize money “up for grabs.” The 2009 festival was held at Thom Collegiate.
